Our main laboratory facilities are located in Ottawa and are supported by an environmental lab in Hamilton and microbiology and an asbestos laboratory in Mississauga. The Opportunity
Paracel Laboratories is seeking an Intermediate Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos) to join our team in Mississauga. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically skilled, and experienced in asbestos analysis()within a fast-paced laboratory environment. The Intermediate Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos) is responsible for performing asbestos analysis using polarized light microscopy (PLM) and phase contrast microscopy (PCM), following established methods and QA/QC protocols. This role involves analyzing a variety of environmental and building material samples, reviewing data, and supporting laboratory operations while continuing to build proficiency with advanced techniques and instrumentation.
This is a prospective opportunity. While there may not be an immediate opening, qualified candidates will be considered for upcoming vacancies as they arise.
Compensation
This position offers a competitive salary of $20 - $25 commensurate with experience. The compensation package includes full benefits, an Employee Family Assistance Program, a Group RRSP plan, and a Profit-Sharing program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Preparation, detection, identification, and quantification of asbestos in bulk materials using PLM.
- Preparation and analysis of asbestos air samples using PCM.
- Perform sample preparation, extraction, and analysis according to in-house procedures and established methods.
- Follow all company SOPs to ensure high-quality data and compliance with ISO accreditation requirements.
- Prepare reagents and standards and maintain accurate documentation.
- Schedule and prioritize sample analysis to meet turnaround times and holding requirements.
- Review and approve sample and QC data, including identifying re-runs.
- Utilize LIMS and laboratory software for data entry, tracking, and reporting.
- Assist with maintaining QA/QC programs and ensuring adherence to laboratory standards.
- Maintain clean and organized workspaces, including microscope stations and laboratory equipment.
- Monitor inventory and requisition supplies as needed.
- Assist in training analysts when required.
- Comply with all Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- College Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, or related discipline).
- Minimum 2–3+ years of experience in asbestos analysis using PLM and PCM in a production laboratory.
- Strong working knowledge of asbestos identification and quantification techniques.
- Familiarity with Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), and ISO 17025 standards.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to follow and interpret technical methods, procedures, and SOPs.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- High level of manual dexterity and ability to perform extended microscope work.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and within a team.
- Ability to distinguish colors accurately for analysis.
